about
Art has always been a driving force in Kristin Mikrut's life. She immersed herself in art and photography classes at Lake Forest High School, earned a degree in Studio Art from Colorado College, and studied art in Paris and New York City. In 2010 she received a fellowship to work and create at RONGO as well as Global Gypsy Gallery in Karamea, New Zealand- a part of the Living in Peace Project. Upon her return from her art residency overseas, Kristin interned with the BOLT Residency as a part of the Chicago Artist Coalition.
From those experiences, Kristin started envisioning a business created around the concept of promoting original art's place in all aspects of everyday life. In 2012, at age 24, Kristin Mikrut became the founding co-owner of the 4000 square foot arts hub that was Re-invent: gallery . studio . innovative retail in Lake Forest, IL.

Kristin is a creative director, curator and US Manager for Japanese artist Shota Kawahara. She currently serves as a board member for the North Shore Affiliate of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.
Kristin also has a passion for curating and large-scale installations and community art. Her work incorporates photographic elements into diverse media, including but not limited to, video art, installation, mixed media and social interactive sculpture. Having an interest in things of the past and a curiosity for the concept of serendipity, Kristin often integrates artifacts with innate narrative and nostalgic qualities into her pieces. She uses such resources in creating art that carries the whispers of others' personal histories and truths merged with her own visions of life.
